When Roland Bole founded sdg - samlinux development group in 2000, the internet was still uncharted territory for many. At that time, the Austrian currency was the Shilling, and mobile phones were still scarce goods. Roland Bole began teaching HTML, web design, and internet technology courses as well as developing the first websites.
At that time, a lot of convincing was still required for web applications. However, there were organizations open to new ideas and recognizing the advantages of Web 2.0. For example, a custom web-based software was developed for the company Elbe in Villach, and the NGOs Rettet das Kind Burgenland, Einstieg, Jugend am Werk, and Arbeitsassistenz Tirol were persuaded of the eAkt system. These applications are still used today for work forms and rental agreements, as well as for documenting and reporting client files.
In 2015, the company underwent a strategic realignment in both its business and technology areas. The use of the MEAN JavaScript stack (MongoDB, Express, AngularJS, and Node.js) instead of the LAMP software stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) enabled the use of modern cloud technologies, efficient data transfer, and a fast user interface for complex, scalable applications. In addition, a new business area was established with the development of CareOrganise, the SaaS (Software as a Service) solution for organizing 24-hour care. This generates ongoing revenue through user fees in addition to contract programming.
In 2023, another SaaS product was presented at the LEARNTEC 2023 in Karlsruhe. VERIABLE is a customizable learning platform that enables smart qualification and verifies competencies. VERIABLE is primarily intended to promote learning initiatives that directly contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). One example is the company’s own IcAcademy, which supports the transformation from Web 2.0 to 3.0 and trains Internet Computer experts with step-by-step instructions and hands-on examples.
Thus, the future of the internet has already begun! With the Internet Computer, dApps (decentralized applications) can be developed on the blockchain. The first Web 3.0 projects have already been implemented with the migration of our own websites to the blockchain. And currently, work is underway on developing a ticket and project documentation system on the Internet Computer, funded by the KWF.
